Early Childhood Screenings

We are so excited for your family to begin the educational journey at Eudora Schools! We appreciate the time and effort to help your student get off to a great start in their academic career.

The Eudora Early Childhood program is a high-quality, play-based learning environment with a foundation in the Kansas Early Learning Standards. We promote embedded, hands-on, culturally relevant learning focusing on the whole child. The staff values a collaborative approach that strives for strong community connections and parent involvement for the growth of every child.

The district calendar includes regular early release days (the second Wednesday of each month), teacher in-service days, and teacher workdays. The early childhood program will not be in session when school is not in session or on early release days. To plan for your student's care, view the annual district calendar.

Enrollment

The Eudora Schools Early Childhood Programs are located at Eudora Elementary School. The programs offered through the Eudora Schools Early Childhood Program are designed to meet the needs of various children, including special education and at-risk students. The program also has typically developing peers who serve as models demonstrating age-appropriate skills and behaviors.

Students aged 3 or 4 who were attending the early childhood program in May 2022 are already pre-registered for the early childhood program in August 2022. Watch for information about the annual online enrollment in July to complete your student's annual enrollment. If you wish to use the extended care option, you must apply for a slot.

If your student was not attending preschool at the end of the school year in May, they will need to attend a monthly screening. Upcoming screening dates will be posted on the Eudora Elementary School Calendar. Please complete the Pre-Enrollment Form and call the Eudora Elementary School main office at 785-542-4940 to schedule a screening appointment.

Schedule

To better serve your students and meet state guidelines, the early childhood program will begin on Thursday, Aug.18th, and will be in session at those times:

Full Day Session
7:30 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday

Morning Session (Includes Breakfast)
7:30 AM - 11:00 AM, M, T, Th, F (No Wednesday Session)

Afternoon Session (Includes Lunch)
11:30 AM - 3:00 PM, M, T, Th, F (No Wednesday Session)

Various factors, including age, class sizes, and individual needs, determine your student’s assignment to the morning or afternoon half-day session. Typically, children attending Kindergarten the following school year will be assigned to the afternoon session. Younger students who will not be transitioning to Kindergarten the following year will be attending the morning session. These sessions will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Fee Structure

All students will pay a $65 instructional supply fee, as well as a $5 technology usage fee. Students qualifying for free/reduced lunch may receive support for the instructional supply fee. In addition, early childhood students who enroll as peer models will be charged a monthly early childhood fee of $70 for half day peers and $140 for full day peers. The monthly fee does not apply to those students who are on a special education plan and/or qualify for at-risk status. Click here to view the district fee schedule, with additional information.

Meals

Developmental Screenings

This is an opportunity to see your student's skills compared to other children their age. Participating in the screening is not an indication that there are serious concerns; instead, it is that more information may be needed. At the screening, children are asked to perform tasks that measure the development of:

Cognition (matching, counting, and problem solving)
Speech and language (how they understand and use language)
Motor skills (writing, balance, and coordination)
In addition, the school nurse will perform a vision and hearing screening.

Before the screening, parents/guardians will fill out pre-enrollment forms, including questionnaires and other documents for the screening process. This will be shared with the team on how your student is developing at home and in social settings.

Parents/guardians will be contacted after the screening with the results of the screenings and any recommendations from the screening team within the following week from their screening date. At this time, it will be discussed if the parent/guardian will begin the enrollment process for early childhood attendance or go onto the waitlist. If a child is put on the waitlist, they will be contacted by the early childhood administrative team as openings become available.

Parents as Teachers

Parents as Teachers is a national program for infants and toddlers (birth to three) that equips parents with the tools they need to tap into their child's natural ability to learn. Participants in P.A.T. enjoy regular playgroups and activities and one-on-one home visits for a truly individualized focus on the child's stages of development. The program also includes basic vision, hearing, and developmental screenings at the different critical stages.

Tiny-K

Tiny-K is a local non-profit organization providing FREE developmental support and services to children. Whether a child has a disability or simply needs a little help in a developmental area, the licensed team of Tiny-K educators and therapists work with families to build a unique success plan for every child.

Tiny-K Early Intervention of Douglas County provides:

Physical therapy
Speech therapy
Occupational therapy
Special Instruction
Feeding and Nutrition
Social Work
